Jan, I've just been reading the WSM, which is what I followed pre internet days. And although not quite explicit the implication is that the bearing cap does need to be removed. As Dave said. So my faulty memory. Sorry!

Try a new coil, type that does not require external ballast resistor. Amazing one that old works at all, and may well fail when warms up. Must have new red colored rotor. Many condenser failures too. Make sure the battery is fully charged. If still showing a 20A charge, the regulator needs adjusting. Clean the points in it as well. George

Where did you get it from? £258 at Moss.

Mind you the lightweight are now £113 and rebuilt original either £130 or £170 for what appear to be identical items. Except the cheaper one is out of stock ...

My TD starts right up. It has normal power, but after only a short drive, it acts as if it is not running on all cylinders. If I put the clutch in and raise the RPM, the power returns to normal.

I also noted that the Amp gauge is up to 20 (early TD with 20/20 amp gauge)

So what would cause an increase in the amp gauge.

The generator and voltage regulator were working c...

I don't bother with classic car magazines any more. Our local MGCC magazine is quite good and get that monthly.
Being a NASCAR nerd though, I get Inside NASCAR, NASCAR NEWS and NASCAR Pole Position. Works out quite well as they're a mix of bi-monthly/quarterly so there's a new mag. nearly every month----works for me, go down to the shed and crack the top off a drum of methanol and have a sniff...

If you're going to reduce the clearance, thicker sun gear washers is the go---Don't shim them,it's a moving part under load, the shims will get eaten up and go through everything

I don't buy car magazines these days. Or any magazines. I continue to be a MASC member and get Mascot. Each issue is well put together and typically has a couple of technical articles or an owner's story, well written. The rest is composed of area reports and although these are often quite humorous, if you don't participate in any of their meets one has no idea who those mentioned are. They don't ...

It was one of those in that price range that packed in on me after 13 months - some of which was in lockdown so it did not get a lot of use. I refitted the original Lucas which has just developed an intermittent fault.

I have gone for a WOSP in the end. Not too much more than a rebuilt original one but a lot easier to get in place and fit. Very early days but so far so good.....

    Jan,

Moss Europe list 5 thicknesses of the sun gear thrust washer 0.035", 0.040", 0.042", 0.046", and 0.048". Item 19 in their rear axle listing.

Another vote for Mascot that comes monthly with the MASC subscription, has the internet killed off or killing off most of the magazines?
